Bridge closure

THE eastward lanes of Humen Bridge to Dongguan and Shenzhen will be closed between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. today and tomorrow for a condition check and load test, the operator said.

The 22-year-old Humen Bridge handled 169,000 vehicles a day in 2018, far beyond its designed capacity of 80,000 vehicles a day.

Saliva samples

SHENZHEN Customs officers caught an inbound traveler at Huanggang Checkpoint carrying saliva samples of 183 people.

Holding an air-conditioned box to cross the border on the night of June 10, the man was ordered for an inspection. The man claimed he planned to mail the samples to Beijing for genomic tests, but couldn’t provide any certificates.

Catapult practice

THREE suspects are being investigated by the Guangming police on the charge of jeopardizing public safety by shooting at buses with catapults.

To improve their skills, the suspects would use catapults that they had bought online to shoot at birds or fish in the Maozhou River. Unfortunately, a bus running on the road was hit twice by the catapult balls.

Panic inciters arrested

FIVE people who made a video for a practical joke, causing panic on a Metro Line 7 train during the evening rush hour Monday, were recently approved for arrest, the Futian procuratorate said.

To get more views and online hits, the suspects shouted “everyone lie down, beware of land mines,” while shooting a video of the reactions of passengers.

The terrifying remarks caused panic among the passengers, who ran to the ends of the train and later rushed out when the train arrived at the station. It caused serious chaos at Huaqiang South Station and forced the operator to add another train to carry away the stranded passengers.
