IN less than a week from the death of a boy who was hit by a falling window in Futian District, a woman was injured by a falling weight plate when she was walking by the Guangcai New World Gardens residential complex near Exit D of Nanshan Metro Station on Saturday noon, Chinese-language media reported yesterday.

The 36-year-old victim, identified by her family name Li, has been immediately taken to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition, the Nanshan police said in a press release.

A witness who gave only his family name An told the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily that he saw the woman lying on the ground with her head bleeding when he walked pastNanshan Metro Station on Saturday.

An said he learnt from another woman, a friend of the victim who was accompanying her, that the victim had been hit by a heavy object that fell from the residential building. An helped call an ambulance for the victim.

The Nanshan police said a preliminary investigation found that the weight plate accidentally fell off the window when a resident, surnamed Wang, was cleaning her apartment in the residential complex in Nanshan District. Wang has been taken to a police station for further investigation.

On June 16, a 5-year-old boy subccumbed to a severe head injury and 14 other critical medical conditions, and died at Shenzhen Children’s Hospital, three days after he was hit by a falling window in a housing estate in Futian District.

In a separate development, two cars parked in a residential compound were damaged by a window falling from the fourth floor of an apartment building, Shenzhen TV reported. But the report didn’t say where the housing estate is located.

A woman with the housing estate’s management office, surnamed Ao, told the news program that her younger sister was a sublessor of the apartment from which the window fell and she agreed to pay one-third of the cost to have the cars repaired. However, the homeowner refused to take any responsibilities.

Police are investigating.

According to a lawyer, the tenant should bear 50 percent of the responsibility while the sublessor should take 30 percent and the remaining 20 percent falls on the property owner.
