AS an industrial region in Shenzhen, Bao’an District is geared up to lay out plans for the new-generation artificial intelligence (AI) industry and is sparing no effort to get a head start in developing the high-tech industry, the Bao’an Daily reported yesterday.

The district’s aspirations in AI come at a time when the city is also striving to promote the in-depth integration of AI and the real economy, as the Shenzhen city government recently released a five-year action plan that outlines targets aiming to drive the development of AI to a new stage.

According to the city’s action plan for promoting the development of the new-generation artificial intelligence industry for 2019-2023, Shenzhen aims to achieve breakthroughs in the theoretical areas of AI and to meet world advanced standards in some technologies and application research within five years.

It also aims to build more than 20 innovation platforms and 10 key industrial clusters and nurture more than 20 leading enterprises with top technological innovation capabilities in China.

The plan also puts forward that the scale of AI’s core industry and related industries shall exceed 30 billion yuan (US$4.36 billion) and reach 60 billion yuan, respectively, by the year of 2023.

Bao’an has been active in speeding up the development of advanced manufacturing and the AI industry.

Last year, the Bao’an District Industry Development Expo specifically set up an exhibition area for the AI industry, which focused on the display of intelligent service robots, intelligent recognition, smart household products, intelligent medical solutions and other innovative AI technologies, products and applications by Bao’an enterprises.

On Aug. 27 last year, the Bao’an District Government signed a cooperation framework agreement with AI company SenseTime. The two sides will work together to help SenseTime settle in Bao’an and carry out the R&D of core technologies to bring into full play the district’s advantages in the manufacturing industry.

On Feb. 13 this year, Bao’an signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Shenzhen Intellifusion Technologies. Co. Ltd. The collaboration aims to strengthen the complementary advantages of both sides, fully exploit and utilize domestic and international resources, and accelerate AI application in all fields in Bao’an District.
