SZU sees fast growth
    2019-06-27  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN University (SZU) is now among the fastest-growing universities around the world. Its international and domestic ranking increase around 100 and 10 positions respectively each year, said Li Qingquan, president of SZU, during an interview with the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily on Tuesday.

In terms of Essential Science Indicators (ESI), SZU is also among the fastest-growing groups in the country. Six subjects including engineering, clinical medicine, material science, biology and biochemistry, computer science and chemistry have entered top 1 percent of the international ranking.

Additionally, 36 of SZU’s subject offerings were included on a list of China’s best subject offerings published by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. Among them, optical engineering and psychology ranked fifth and 10th in the country respectively.

SZU filed 201 patent applications through Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), ranking first among universities in the country. It marked the third time that SZU had dominated the PCT application ranking, the report said.

Li said that students are welcome to apply for SZU. SZU is going to accept 6,750 new undergraduates this year. A total of 5,407 places will be saved for gaokao takers from Guangdong Province. SZU will also enroll 15 students from Beijing for the first time.

This year, SZU added a new major, preventive medicine, which plans to open 30 seats for Guangdong students.

SZU has made all-out efforts to build advanced innovation and research platforms for high-quality talents in recent years. SZU attracted a group of talents accredited by both national and local authorities.

Li suggested that the purpose of their focus on talent building is to offer solid support for undergraduate education. All professors are required to deliver lectures for undergraduate students.

SZU also emphasized cooperation with enterprises, said Li. SZU established the first AI college in Guangdong with Tencent and set up the SZU-Tencent cloud certificate center where students can get the Tencent cloud engineer certificate upon completing relevant courses.
