Smartphone shipments

CHINA is expected to take the lead in 5G smartphone shipments in 2023, an industrial report showed.

Nearly 800 million 5G smartphones will be delivered in 2023 globally, while China might account for 34 percent of the total shipments, global technology market analyst firm Canalys said in a recent report. Canalys forecasted that in 2020, 17.5 percent of smartphones shipped in China will be 5G-capable, and this percentage will rise sharply to 62.7 percent in 2023.

Insurance market

CHINA is expected to surpass the United States to become the world’s largest insurance market in the mid-2030s, according to a report from Swiss Re Institute.

China consolidated its position as the second largest insurance market globally in 2018, with total premiums reaching US$575 billion. However, the Chinese market is currently still less than 40 percent of the size of the U.S. market and is also smaller than the three largest markets in Europe — Britain, Germany and France — combined.

Truck exports

CHINA National Heavy Duty Truck Group, or Sinotruk, expects this year’s heavy-duty truck exports to reach 45,000 units, up nearly 24 percent year on year in pursuit of greater market share overseas, Xinhua reported yesterday.

Sinotruk sold 12,589 heavy trucks overseas during the first four months of this year, accounting for 48 percent of the country’s total heavy truck exports during the period.
