出圈
    2019-07-09  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

chūquān

Meaning:

“出” means “to come out of,” and “圈” means “a coterie.” A term often used by fans, “coming out of a certain coterie” refers to the scenario where an incident or an idol formerly known by a small group of fans suddenly goes viral and becomes known by the general public. Therefore, the term means “becoming a household name.”

Example:

A: 最近有什么节目好看?

Zuìjìn yǒu shénme jiēmù hǎokàn?

Is there any show that you can recommend now?

B: 爱奇艺《乐队的夏天》还不错。

àiqíyì 《yuèduì de xiàtiān 》hái búcuò。

“The Big Band” on iQiyi is not bad.

A: 这个节目很火啊,听说有个黑马叫”九连真人”,现在出圈了。

Zhè ge jiémù hěn huǒ a,tīngshuō yǒuge hēimǎ jiào “jiǔlián zhēnrén”,xiànzài chūquān le。

That one is really popular. I’ve heard a band by the name Jiulian Zhenren became a dark horse and it’s already a household name.
