Boy’s foot stuck in escalator
    2019-07-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A BOY’S foot got stuck in an escalator at Tianbei Station on Metro Line 3 on Monday night, local Chinese media reported.

A video shows the boy trying to put his right foot under the skirt on the left side of the escalator. Everything was fine until the skirt touched the step that the boy was standing on.

Luckily, the escalator stopped operating once the boy was snagged. Staff on site also pushed the emergency button to ensure the escalator was stopped.

Staff at the station then immediately took out a first-aid box to help the boy, notified the escalator supplier and called 120 as well as the fire department.

The Tianbei firefighting department in Luohu District dispatched two cars and 10 firefighters to the site after receiving the call, the report said.

The firefighters first comforted the boy and then used a special pair of electronic scissors to open a space between the skirt and the step. The boy’s foot was finally freed at around 9:30 p.m. and he was accompanied to a hospital for treatment by Metro staff.

The report warned about accidents caused by the misuse of escalators.
