THE annual selection of “Shenzhen Excellent Youth” was held Thursday afternoon in the theater at Children’s Palace in Futian District.

Ten Shenzhen youths from all walks of life finally claimed 10 spots for this year’s title of “Shenzhen Excellent Youth” after competing against 20 other finalists.

Tu Jiajian is a volunteer in Longgang District. In 2008, Tu suffered serious burns all over his body in an accident. It was the care of volunteers that helped Tu get out of the difficult period.

Tu later became a volunteer, hoping to help others.

Another winner of the title is Wei Chuanfeng, an engineer with Se Mawan Power. Wei is now working in Africa on a cooperation project. In a video shown on the site, Wei’s wife said that although she did not want her husband to go to Africa, given that their second baby was going to be born soon, she understands Wei’s dream, so she is willing to support his decision.

The other winners are Liu Peichao, CEO of DOBOT, Zhong Hua, general manager of CR Land Shenzhen, Liu Chenli, a researcher with Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fu Weiwei, an official with the Shenzhen Municipal Water Bureau, Sui Yanbo, a policeman of Guangming sub-bureau of the Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau, Yu Lu, deputy chief engineer of the Shenzhen Urban Planning and Design Institute, Wang Maolin, co-founder of Standard Robots, and Qu Jiuxin, a doctor at Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital.

The annual campaign aims to find outstanding role models who have made remarkable contributions to Shenzhen’s development.
