Waste smuggling

SHENZHEN recently seized 6.81 tons of deserted data output modules, which are regarded as industrial waste.

A supply chain company in Shenzhen declared to Shenzhen Customs that it was importing a set of data output modules through Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint. However, during cargo inspection, officers found the modules were used, scratched and covered in dust. Follow-up tests confirmed that the products fell into the category of industrial waste, which has been banned by China.

The case is still under investigation.

New schools

GUANGMING District, in partnership with Shenzhen Education Science Research Institute, will set up an experimental school and a primary school, according to a signing ceremony held last week.

The new schools will open next year.

Driving suspensions

SHENZHEN police received 850,000 applications for car driving suspensions in the first half of the year.

The city has 3.5 million cars and ranks No. 1 among Chinese cities in vehicle density.

Since the program was initiated in 2013, police have received 3.24 million applications.
