SZ ranks 6th in salaries in new occupations
    2019-07-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

ONE in every four people taking up a new occupation in the service sector, such as food couriers, beauty vloggers and car-hailing drivers, earns a monthly salary of over 10,000 yuan (US$1,453), according to a report co-published by tech company Meituan Dianping, online recruitment platform Zhaopin.com and 21st Century Economic Institute, the Nanfang Daily reported.

The report also says that Shenzhen ranks sixth in average salary for these new occupations among all cities in China, following Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou, Nanjing and Suzhou.

According to the report, economic vitality and business environment are positively associated with the flourishing of new occupations.

In the case of Shenzhen, the city ranks third in the quality of the business environment and GDP among other cities in the country, and fourth in terms of the number of people taking up new occupations.

As China’s economy continues to develop and the expansion of the service industry creates new career opportunities for people, the salaries of new occupations will also increase, the report disclosed.

Statistics show that 55 percent of people who take up new occupations earn a monthly salary higher than 5,000 yuan, 24.6 percent earn more than 10,000 yuan, and 5.6 percent earn more than 25,000 yuan every month.

Among all the new occupations being surveyed, the ones with salaries higher than 10,000 yuan are mainly in such fields as pet care, marriage services, entertainment, medical cosmetology and parent-child activities.

Additionally, the report reveals that over 90 percent of people taking up new occupations were born in the 1980s and 1990s.
