Measures urged for garbage sorting
    2019-07-17  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

YAO REN, Party chief of Bao’an District, said in a visit to Hangcheng and Xixiang subdistricts Monday that effective and practical measures must be taken to ensure the efficient execution of each link in the process of garbage classification, the Bao’an Daily reported yesterday.

Yao visited the two subdistricts to inspect and learn about the work on the promotion and implementation of garbage classification.

At present, Bao’an is actively promoting garbage sorting. Urban villages and housing estates across the district are successively removing garbage bins from the floors of residential buildings and setting up designated points in the estates for the disposal of classified garbage.

During the inspection, Yao pointed out that promoting garbage sorting is the only way to build a waste-free city and improve people’s living environment, and every measure related to garbage sorting should be in line with reality and be implemented effectively in daily life.

On Monday afternoon, Yao went to some urban villages where garbage sorting is being promoted and residential estates where garbage sorting has already been carried out in the two subdistricts.

Yao inspected the working conditions of garbage collection points, transfer stations and waste disposal plants, and communicated with residents, property management operators, subdistrict and community cadres, and garbage transfer and treatment workers to learn about the difficulties and obstacles in promoting and implementing garbage sorting.

Yao stressed that the promotion of garbage sorting should start with changing the habits of residents. Motivating residents to assume the responsibility of garbage classification and actively engage in the undertaking not only requires education, but also incentives and clear guidance.

As one of the 46 pilot cities in the country to develop a garbage sorting and processing system, Shenzhen is stepping up its efforts to promote garbage classification.  (Zhang Yu)
