BAO GUANYI, the first child from Bao’an District Social Welfare Center to be adopted by a foreign family, returned to China to visit her old “family” at the center Sunday, the Bao’an Daily reported. In 2005, Bao, at the age of 2, was noticed for having an outgoing personality and exceptional imitation skills by the center’s staffers. In the same year, information about Bao’s adoption was posted in the newspaper. An Australian couple was successfully matched with Bao soon after, marking the first case of a foreign family adopting a child through the center. After arriving at her new home in Australia, Bao stayed in touch with the center’s staffers and learned about Chinese culture. Upon returning to China, Bao said she was happy to come back and visit the workers who had once taken care of her. (Liu Wenjin) |
