Checks on truck violations
    2019-07-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

DUMP trucks running on the city’s roads are required to use the lane farthest to the right, and when they turn right, their speed must be below 10 kilometers per hour.

In a campaign launched yesterday, police adopted 10 measures, including on-site inspections, the use of monitoring cameras, offering rewards to whistleblowers and fixing the liabilities of truck companies, in order to tackle the problems of speeding and curb violations.

The Shenzhen police have established a penalty-point accumulation system especially designed for dump truck drivers. When 12 points are accumulated, the driver will be suspended from driving and ordered to attend training sessions.

By July 14, Bao’an, Longgang, Longhua, and Guangming districts had reported 675 accidents this year that resulted in 98 deaths and 354 injuries. Among the fatalities, one-third involved heavy vehicles. Bao’an District reported 46 deaths, nearly half of the total, and Bao’an Boulevard ranked No. 1 with five fatal accidents that killed five people. Another seven roads, including Yanlong Boulevard, National Highway 107 and Guangqiao Road, reported more than two fatalities each.

In an action to safeguard people’s lives Wednesday, police checked 2,161 violations made by pedestrians and non motor vehicles. The violations included 905 cases of running red lights and 560 cases of riders who had e-bikes that failed to meet standards or went against restrictions.
