Chickenpox

SHENZHEN’S checkpoints have reported eight chickenpox cases so far this year. The latest was reported at Wenjindu Checkpoint, where quarantine officers found an adult traveler who had been infected by his child.

Tidal lane

THE Shenzhen police recently opened a tidal lane for westbound vehicles on Shenyan No. 2 Passage, a part of Shenzhen-Huizhou Coastal Expressway.

Between 5:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on weekends and holidays from July 14 to Oct. 7, westbound vehicles can use the 5-kilometer tidal lane between Yangang Flyover and Meisha Tollgate. The move is to relieve pressure on vehicles traveling to the city’s eastern tourism attractions during tourism season.

On-the-job injuries

THOSE who work outdoors and suffer heatstroke can receive compensation for on-the-job injury. Employers can shorten outdoor work time by increasing the number of rotations, and overtime work is forbidden when outdoor temperatures reach above 35 degrees Celsius. If outdoor temperatures are between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius, outdoor work must be shortened to six hours and be suspended between noon and 4 p.m. When temperatures reach above 39 degrees Celsius, all outdoor work should be suspended.

Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory issued the first orange alert in 2019 for high temperatures Wednesday.
