Cause of cave-in

A PRELIMINARY investigation found that the road cave-in in Nanshan District on Wednesday occurred because the earth refilling following a project conducted by the water affairs authority was not dense enough.

The Nanshan transport authority made the statement Wednesday night.

A section of Gongye No. 8 Road collapsed at around 8 a.m. Wednesday, trapping a passing bus, which was later pulled out of the sinkhole. The hole measures about six square meters. No casualties were reported.

Outbound tours

OUTBOUND tours have spiked since the start of the summer holiday period, as statistics from China Southern Airlines suggest 90 percent of seats for international routes from Shenzhen to Sydney, Melbourne, Mexico, Jakarta and Taipei have been sold.

The occupation rate for flights to Southeast Asian countries and South Korea also increased by 10 percent on average, statistics show.
