Man detained for breaking Metro door with slingshot
    2019-07-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A MAN surnamed Hu was administratively detained for 10 days by the Longhua police July 19 for damaging a glass door of a Metro Line 4 train when trying to shoot a bird with a slingshot, according to a report by Shenzhen Media Group yesterday.

The incident happened at around 7 a.m. July 18, when a train was running on the elevated section of the line from Hongshan Station to Shenzhen North Station.

The incident caused chaos among passengers taking the train during the morning rush hour and forced the operator, Hong Kong MTR Shenzhen Company, to halt service due to safety concerns.

The video clip provided by police showed the damage was caused by a man who was attempting to hit a bird with a slingshot from a park near the elevated bridge.

Hu, 31, admitted to accidentally damaging the glass door while trying to hit a bird using a slingshot. In Shenzhen, hunting birds is against the law.

Accidental damages to Metro trains have happened in Shenzhen before. In December 2017, an illegal ground piling project pierced through the tunnel of Metro Line 11. A Metro train hit the pile and was seriously damaged, but no one was injured.
