A play was staged at the International Theater Festival in Avignon, France last Tuesday night local time. The play was created by Bao’an District and is about the inheritance of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) culture. Ah Bao, the main character in this play, titled “Xun Fang,” meaning searching for prescriptions, was originally a fisherman. However her grandpa suddenly succumbs to a serious illness and passes away. Ah Bao learns from a kind person that this illness can only be cured by a rare herb. Despite it seeming impossible to save her grandpa, Ah Bao begins a journey to the capital to find the cure, learn leechcraft and save others affected by this disease. TCM culture is one of the most important parts of Chinese traditional culture, and Shenzhen was designated a Comprehensive Reform Pilot Area of Chinese Medicine in the country. Bao’an has already established the first TCM treatment hospital, and raised Chinese medical development funding and continues to search for innovative development paths for TCM culture. After the show, the French audience said they were thoroughly impressed by the excellent performance. This is a great work full of interesting Chinese elements. TCM is popular in France. Many of the French audience members showed their interest in the TCM ingredients and acupuncture points of Chinese medicine. It was also said that Bao’an District and Avignon will cooperate as twin districts. (Chen Siqi) |
