DRIVERS traveling to the Meisha and Dapeng tourism regions in the city’s east on weekends and holidays without online reservations are advised to turn back or face fines in accordance with the rules.

The Shenzhen traffic police have installed signs and LCDs on the way to restricted tourism areas to remind drivers. Drivers who enter the restricted areas without reservations will be fined 300 yuan (US$43.52) and receive three penalty points starting in August.

Shenzhen traffic police have implemented an online reservation system for vehicles traveling to Meisha or Dapeng Peninsula that limits the quota to 40,000 per day on weekends and holidays between May 1 and Oct. 7. The 40,000-vehicle quota to each place includes 10,000 available to be used by local businesses and vendors.

Holidaymakers are advised to use the quotas provided by local businesses because so far only 20 percent of them have been used.

To relieve traffic to the city’s east, especially during holidays, Shenzhen traffic police have opened two tidal lanes for vehicles running along Shenyan No. 2 Passage, a part of the Shenzhen-Huizhou Coastal Expressway.

Between 5:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on weekends and holidays from July 14 to Oct. 7, westbound vehicles can use the 5-kilometer tidal lane between Yangang Flyover and Meisha Tollgate.

A tidal lane for eastbound vehicles has been put into use between the elevated bridge in the Yantian port area and Dameisha Toll Gate on Huizhou-Shenzhen Coastal Expressway to relieve congestion.

Since Baguang Tollgate was put into use earlier this month, Dameisha Tollgate and another four tollgates are being dismantled and new traffic with six lanes will open to the public in August. The Yantian-Baguang Expressway will be toll free and the traffic police department advises drivers passing through the road project areas to follow traffic signs and drive at limitied speeds.  (Han Ximin)
