Unquarantined pork seized from Bao’an warehouse
    2019-07-30  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

INSPECTORS in Xixiang Subdistrict in Bao’an recently seized 1,600 kilograms of unquarantined pork that had been stored illegally in a warehouse in an industrial park, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

Based on the report, the inspectors found a dead pig floating in a river near the Hangcheng industrial zone in Taoyuan Community and emitting a strong stink during their daily patrol on July 24.

The next day they found that a store near the river in the industrial zone, which had been vacant for a long time, was being rented out and had bloodstains in front of its door.

Residents living nearby told the inspectors that they had heard noises from the store at night.

With this information, the inspectors suspected that the dead pig might have been discarded by people working for the store. Inspectors then arranged for staff to surveil the store.

Two trucks were found driving into the industrial zone and parking in the front of the store at around 3 a.m. July 26. Several workers then transported pork from the car to the store. Inspectors immediately reported the case to the superior authority and conducted a surprise inspection of the store.

Workers were scared and fled. Staff from the market supervision department then arrived at the place and discovered that the store lacked sanitation equipment.

The sliced pork stored in the warehouse did not qualify for a quarantine stamp. Due to the sweltering heat, the pork had a terribly unpleasant smell.

The official also spotted a pile of quarantine certificates on site, which were confirmed later to be fakes. The pork has been seized by the authority and the store has been sealed off.  (Wang Jingli)
