63 cheated in scam

TWENTY-FOUR people from a crime ring stood trial in Longgang District for cheating 63 victims out of 14 million yuan (US$2.04 million) recently.

The criminal ring, disguised as members of a tech company, set up several WeChat groups to coax WeChat users into opening accounts for stock transactions. They sent fake information about a bogus stock trading platform that they controlled, and pretended to be stock analysts and stock investors to make high profits by modifying data and charging high commission fees.

Fugitive caught

THREE fugitives were caught by police Saturday when one of them turned to police for help with getting a temporary ID certificate.

When police at Changping Railway Police Station checked the ID information of the man, surnamed Deng, a police officer suspected that he was wanted for theft.

Deng’s two companions were also confirmed to be thieves.

Shenzhen railway police officers later found 16 mobile phones, 2,000 yuan in banknotes and a bank card in their luggage.

Tunnels completed

THE tunnel projects for Bantian-Yinhu Passage were completed last week, marking the start of decoration and the installation of machinery and electrical equipment.

The 7.64-km passage linking Bantian and Yinhu will be completed before the end of 2019. Upon completion, the trip between Bantian and Yinhu will be cut to 12 minutes.
