WHISTLE-BLOWERS can receive a cash reward of 20 yuan (US$2.90) for each reported traffic violation, such as running against the vehicle flow, crossing solid lines and failing to follow directives or use turn signals when turning.

The total reward is capped at 500 yuan per person per month, according to a release by the Shenzhen traffic police bureau.

Under the expanded reward program, whistle-blowers will be awarded 2,000 yuan for reporting local vehicles that are using fake license plates or nonlocally registered vehicles using forged local license plates.

Whistle-blowers reporting illegal parking on pedestrian roads, crossings or firefighting passages will be rewarded 50 yuan for each count. This reward is also capped at 500 yuan per month per person. The reward for reporting illegal parking on roads with heavy traffic is 10 yuan for each count with a cap at 200 yuan per month.

Residents are encouraged to report illegal parking on bus lanes or near bus stops with the reward increasing to 50 yuan and the cap at 500 yuan per month.

Shenzhen traffic police introduced the reward program to encourage the public to report traffic violations in 2014.
