BAO’AN has kicked off a series of actions to strictly regulate the illegal discharge of sewage water into rainwater pipes and rivers, the Bao’an Daily reported. Zhu Enping, deputy head of Bao’an District, announced the actions at a meeting Aug. 7. The actions will mainly target entities and places, including restaurants, staff canteens of industrial parks, stalls selling fresh products at wet markets, garbage collection stations, construction sites and vehicles that transport wastes. Discharging sewage into rainwater pipes and rivers will be cracked down on, according to the Daily. In the past three years, Bao’an has continuously strengthened the enforcement of laws around environmental protection and water pollution control. In 2017, the district imposed 83.49 million yuan (US$11.82 million) in fines in 463 cases, accounting for 34 percent of the total penalties issued in Shenzhen. In particular, a fine of 1.24 million yuan was imposed in one case, which was the highest penalty issued in Guangdong Province. In 2018, the district issued fines on violators amounting to 120 million yuan. As of Aug. 2 this year, Bao’an has dealt with 184 water administration cases and imposed fines totaling 31.52 million yuan. (Zhou Ting) |
