Efforts urged to continue to fight drug crimes
    2019-08-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

BAO’AN District has investigated 1,128 people suspected of drug crimes, detected 259 drug-related cases, detained 381 and arrested 310 people this year, ranking first across the city, the Bao’an Daily reported.

The district’s Party chief, Yao Ren, noted that efforts to combat drug-related crimes should be enhanced when conducting research on the district.

Strengthening drug supervision in the logistics industry is of great importance, as logistics services have been utilized by offenders to illegally transport drugs, said the report.

“We once discovered cases that were hiding drugs in a handicraft product, portable speakers and batteries. We immediately reported it to the police and they busted two drug trafficking rings,” said a staffer with a Shenzhen logistics company called Yuhuanguoji.

Bao’an is currently home to 3,839 logistics companies. Over the past few years, the district has introduced technologies to supervise the entire logistics process.

A total of 215 unlicensed logistics companies have been closed down in Bao’an in recent years. Additionally, Bao’an has provided trainings for nearly 88,000 people working in the logistics industry so far.

Fuyong Subdistrict, the biggest distribution center in Shenzhen, established the first district-level logistics association in July. With 300 firms as members, the association urges each member enterprise to observe its supervision rules to fight drug trafficking.

Bao’an has seen a decreasing number of drug trafficking cases over the past few years. Along with this, the number of people receiving drug rehabilitation at the district’s drug rehabilitation center also dropped to 637 from 2,454 in 2017, according to the report.  (Wang Jingli)
