A CAR owner identified by his surname Li was recently fined 1,500 yuan (US$213) for parking his car on a green belt on Guixiang Road in Guanlan Subdistrict, Longhua District. However, Li thought the fine was inappropriate, according to a report in the Southern Metropolis Daily. Li said he parked his car on the green belt overnight July 29. When he came back the next morning, he found a penalty notice. However, Li thought the amount he was fined was inappropriate because 500 yuan had been the routine amount for this situation. Officers with the Longhua urban administration and law enforcement bureau told the reporter with the Daily that law enforcement staff found a total of three small vehicles parked in a public green space on Guixiang Road on July 29. According to the relevant regulation, drivers who park their cars in public green areas will be fined between 500 and 2,000 yuan per square meter, based on the total occupied area. In Li’s case, his car occupied more than 3 square meters of the public green, so the penalty he received was in line with the rule, the officers said. The bureau also encouraged residents to report similar cases. (Chen Qingxuan) |
