Phone talks held between Sino-US chief negotiators
    2019-08-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

CHINA’S chief trade negotiators Vice Premier Liu He and Commerce Minister Zhong Shan on Tuesday held a phone conversation with their U.S. counterparts Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer.

Through the phone talks, the Chinese side lodged solemn representations concerning additional U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports starting Sept. 1.

Following the conversation, the U.S. announced a delay in imposing tariffs on some imports from China until Dec. 15, citing “health, safety, national security and other factors.”

The products include mobile phones, laptops, video game consoles, some toys, computer monitors, and certain footwear and clothing.

The Chinese and U.S. trade talk delegations agreed to hold another phone conversation in two weeks.

The two sides were due to hold another round of talks in Washington in September.

Asked about the meeting last week, U.S. President Donald Trump said: “We’ll see whether or not we keep our meeting in September.”
