SHENZHEN University is included in the top 500 of the 2019 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) for the first time, holding the No. 328 spot in the world and No. 33 on the Chinese mainland.

The ARWU, which has been released by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy since 2003, published a list of the best 1,000 universities in the world this year. A total of 132 universities from the Chinese mainland are included in the ranking.

Besides Shenzhen University, another two from Guangdong Province, namely Sun Yat-sen University and South China University of Technology, also made the list.

Tsinghua University, Peking University and Zhejiang University in eastern China’s Zhejiang Province are the top three domestic Chinese universities in the ARWU.

The ARWU, said to be the first comprehensive global university ranking, has been recognized as the precursor and one of the most trustworthy university rankings.

A widely recognized ranking, the ARWU has also become a source for many governments and universities as they improve their competitive edge.

In recent years, Shenzhen University has achieved breakthroughs in the development of scientific researches and disciplines, as well as the cultivation of high-quality talents.

A total of 346 projects from Shenzhen University have received national funds provided by the National Natural Science Foundation of China this year, according to the information released by the foundation.

More than 42,000 projects from over 1,400 units across the country have applied for the national subsidies. Shenzhen University ranks No. 16 in terms of the number of application items.

It is worth noting that six of the 743 projects that have been selected by the National Natural Science Foundation of China as key projects designed to support researchers in conducting deeper exploration in several important fields are from Shenzhen University.
