Heavy rain

PERSISTENT heavy rain triggered by super typhoon Lekima battered Northeast China’s Jilin Province, leaving 85,089 people from 22 counties and districts affected, the provincial flood control headquarters said Friday.

The downpours have also left 25,823 hectares of cropland in Jilin affected, with 1,207 hectares completely destroyed.

7 dead, 2 missing

SEVEN people were confirmed dead and another two remained missing after a ship sank off the coast of Shandong Province on Friday afternoon, local maritime rescue authorities said Saturday.

The accident happened at around 5:55 p.m. Friday, when a ship from Hebei Province was rocked by a gale and sank near the port of Rizhao.
