Wang Jingli wangjingli0715@163.com SHENZHEN Polytechnic established a research center for a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics Tuesday to provide an academic research platform where experts and scholars can conduct deep studies into the construction of a pilot demonstration area. The research center was inaugurated during a seminar held Monday and Tuesday at Shenzhen Polytechnic in Nanshan District, where experts from across the country shared their insights into the strategic significance of supporting Shenzhen in building a pilot demonstration area, and opinions on Shenzhen’s next steps. Wu Dinghai, president of Shenzhen Academy of Social Sciences, noted at the opening ceremony of the seminar Monday that as the Central Government has unveiled a detailed guideline, it is time for scholars in Shenzhen’s social science field to provide strong intellectual support to help the city become a pilot demonstration area. Chen Qiuming, Party chief of Shenzhen Polytechnic, said that as a college in Shenzhen, Shenzhen Polytechnic will actively respond to work arranged by the municipal Party committee as well as the municipal government and strive to become a world first-class vocational school to contribute to the construction of a pilot demonstration area. Chai Shangjin, a counselor at China Center for Contemporary World Studies, observed that supporting Shenzhen in becoming a pilot demonstration area will once again produce new breakthroughs in China’s development. “Development refers to one with higher goals seen not only in a modern economic system but also in a democratic and rule of law environment, in urban civilization, in livelihood development and in the harmonious coexistence of nature and human beings,” said Chai. In terms of detailed methods for building the pilot demonstration area, Pei Jizhuang from the Central Party School suggested that the word pilot means that the future journey will be filled with innovative explorations and practices. Scientific and innovative ideologies and models are necessary when blazing a trail. Wu Songying, former president of Shenzhen Press Group, emphasized the role of cultural soft power in promoting advancement in the areas of culture, education and sports. Other experts maintained that as Shenzhen is also encouraged to provide an experience that can be replicated and spread to other cities in China, or even foreign countries, Shenzhen’s responsibilities carry more weight than the development of a special economic zone. As a result, Shenzhen should make full use of its various advantages in areas such as policy, location and system to achieve the goal. |
