More school seats to be added in the city
    2019-08-30  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A TOTAL of 31,000 school seats are to be added by the end of this year after the completion of the expansion and renovation projects currently being conducted at the city’s 18 elementary and secondary schools, according to the Shenzhen Evening News.

At the same time, the city will add 20,000 kindergarten seats to promote the development of pre-school education.

Support will also be given to expand higher education institutions like Shenzhen University, Southern University of Science and Technology, and Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen.

Additionally, Shenzhen will speed up the construction of Shenzhen University of Technology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shenzhen Innovative and Creative Design College, according to the report.

The city’s general public budget reached 252 billion yuan (US$35 billion) before August. Nearly 70 percent of the budget was used in nine areas concerning people’s livelihood. The education budget reached 40.72 billion yuan, seeing year-on-year growth of 40.3 percent, which showed the high priority of education.

Next, the city will continue to provide more affordable homes and public rental housing. It will also support Qianhai to expand Qianhai Cooperation Zone as well as China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone, Qianhai and Shekou Area of Shenzhen. As many as 400 garbage transfer stations will be renovated. The construction of medical service and transport and traffic facilities will also be a focus, according to the report.
