56 referees selected
    2019-08-30  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE referees that will officiate the games at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 have been announced.

The World Cup will have 56 officials coming from 40 federations across FIBA’s five continental zones. The World Cup referees are aged between 26 to 49 and have an average of 9.5 years of experience as FIBA referees.

The selection has been made after carefully monitoring each individual referee’s performance over the past two years in all continental club and FIBA national team competitions.

The Officiating Team brings with them a high level of expertise with all referees having experience in either FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers, FIBA Continental Cups, FIBA Basketball World Cups and/or the Olympic Games. Furthermore, the team also brings experienced referees who have officiated in the NBA.

All 56 referees have come together for the five-day Officiating Team Pre-Competition Camp, held in Beijing, in order to finalize their preparations prior to the commencement of the FIBA Basketball World Cup on Aug. 31.
