More typhoons in Sept.

A TROPICAL low pressure system in the South China Sea, which is 520 kilometers southeast of Shenzhen, will bring heavy rain, and even torrential rain, to the city this week.

The tropical storm is moving at 20 kilometers per hour westwards towards the sea east of Hainan, but its route is unpredictable, Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory said yesterday.

The observatory issued a white alert at 10 a.m. yesterday, indicating the tropical storm is expected to affect the city within 24 hours.

At a news conference Friday, it was announced there will be at least one to two typhoons entering the city’s 500-km defense cycle in September and October, bringing rainfall and alleviating the high temperatures.

In the first half of September, the active tropical cloud cluster over the South China Sea could easily form tropical storms and typhoons. Along with a southwest monsoon, they will bring rainfall to the city.

The typhoon that will form in the northwestern Pacific Ocean in the second half of the month may make landfall at the mouth of the Pearl River or an area to its west, bringing heavy rain to the city.
