AN 8-year-old surnamed Huang was killed in a traffic accident on the way to school yesterday, the first day of school.

The tragedy happened at 7:29 a.m. when the e-bike carrying the child collided with a truck at the intersection of Mingle East Road and Bao’an Boulevard, the police said on its official WeChat account.

Police have investigated the truck driver, surnamed Luo.

The child’s mother was driving the e-bike in the same lane as the truck running along Bao’an Boulevard. She collided with the truck as it approached the intersection.

Police said the mother was driving around construction facilities that were occupying the road when the accident occurred.

In another accident in Longgang District yesterday, a 5-year-old boy, surnamed Lan, was killed by a truck in Pingdi Subdistrict. The boy’s mother was carrying him on an e-bike. At around 9 a.m., the truck collided with the e-bike as it turned right on Longgang Boulevard, according to police.
