A GROUP of yellow and red zinnias have been planted in the field in the southern square of the Civic Center in Futian District in preparation to form a scene featuring the Chinese characters for “I Love You China” by the end of September, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported. Flowers are expected to begin blooming Sept. 20 and will be in full blossom during the National Day holiday. The flowering season will last 30 days until the end of October. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. In order to celebrate the big day, the Futian District Urban Administration and Law Enforcement Bureau has organized horticultural experts and professionals to design flowers for the field at the Civic Center. The field of flowers has been named a citizens’ flower field, which is planted and managed by resident volunteers, after reportedly being trampled last year. In order to ensure that the flowers will ultimately depict the designed scene, the bureau invited professionals, like Huang Pan, who once participated in the construction of a flower field in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, during the G20 summit, to provide guidance for the volunteers. Over 50 volunteers recently came to the field to help remove weeds. “Volunteers are participating in the important stages. Later, they will also be invited to spread manure,” said Huang. Staff with the Futian bureau said that the new flower field, as a gift to the country, is of special significance both from a personal and social standpoint. (Wang Jingli) |
