Farm produce prices PRICES of farm produce in China continued to pick up last week, according to data from the Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday. From Aug. 26 to Sept. 1, the overall price of farm produce climbed 2.4 percent on a weekly basis, expanding from the 2.3-percent increase in the previous week. In breakdown, the average wholesale price of 30 types of vegetables went down 2.8 percent week on week, and that of six types of fruits registered a 1.3-percent drop during the same period. The wholesale price of pork increased 8.9 percent to 34.59 yuan per kilometer and the wholesale price of beef rose by 2.4 percent, and that of mutton went up 1.9 percent. Retail sales GUANGDONG Province saw its retail sales grow 7.6 percent year on year in the January-July period, local authorities said Tuesday. Total retail sales of consumer goods hit 2.4 trillion yuan (US$334 billion) in the period, according to the provincial statistics bureau. The food and beverage industry has become the biggest engine driving the province’s retail sales, which saw revenue growth of 10.2 percent year on year over the period. E-commerce logistics THE country’s e-commerce logistics business has increased steadily in August, according to a survey released yesterday by the China Logistics and Purchasing Federation and online retailer JD. The total business volume index was 128.1 points in August, up 0.7 points from the previous month. In terms of regions, the total business volume index of the eastern region rebounded slightly, but the total business volume index of the central, western and northeastern regions fell slightly. |
