SHENZHEN traffic police have estimated, based on past data, that the travel peak for the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday will arrive tomorrow and Friday.

As the weather will be fine, with temperatures ranging between 26 and 32 degrees Celsius, police estimate that around 1.5 million vehicles will travel to and from the city during the festival travel period between Thursday afternoon and Sunday evening.

On Friday, the Mid-Autumn Festival, the peak for vehicles leaving the city will arrive between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. The peak for returning vehicles will arrive between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Sunday, the last day of the holiday, police said.

The expressways in China during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday won’t be made toll free like for other holidays, such as the Spring Festival, as well as the Qingming, May Day and National Day holidays.

Police estimate that the congestion will be improved on Yanba Expressway this year thanks to the dismantlement of tollgates along the way. The vehicle loads on Boshen Expressway and Shenshan Expressway are expected to increase by 80 to 100 percent during the holiday.

Meiguan Expressway will handle 490,000 vehicles traveling to and from Shenzhen during the holiday, followed by Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway and Longda Expressway in terms of vehicle load.

Vehicle congestion will be seen at shopping centers, business circles, tourist attractions and scenic spots in the city’s east. Luohu District will be the most congested, followed by Futian and Nanshan districts.

Police said the top 10 congested locations will include the Meisha beach parks, Dapeng, OCT East, the Mt. Fenghuang tourism park, Shenzhen Fairy Lake Botanical Garden, Mangrove Forest, the Window of the World theme park, Lianhua Hill Park and Donghu Park.
