The images taken from a Shenzhen-made satellite show Greenland’s glaciers (above) and part of Xinjiang (L). China’s first polar observation satellite, the BNU-1, also known as Ice Pathfinder, was launched into space Sept. 12 to strengthen the nation’s polar research capabilities. The Shenzhen-made satellite is tasked with observing and monitoring the climate and environment in the Antarctic and Arctic. It has begun sending back observation images.
