A JOINT ground-to-air emergency medical rescue drill, which aimed to test the emergency response ability of mobile hospitals in the city, was held on Jiulong Mountain in Longhua District on Wednesday morning, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.

The rescue team with the mobile hospital under the Seventh Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, Shanghai Kingwing General Aviation Co. Ltd. and Shenzhen Heli-Eastern Aviation Co. participated in the drill.

A mobile hospital is a fully equipped medical center or small hospital that can be moved and settled in a new place and situation swiftly.

In 2018, the Seventh Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University inaugurated its mobile hospital in the city. The mobile hospital became the second such hospital in Guangdong Province and the only one in Shenzhen.

In March 2019, the Seventh Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University officially launched its aerial medical rescue service.

The hospital has also broadened the radius of emergency medical rescue to between 300 and 400 kilometers, providing strong support for major public health emergencies and critical medical treatment in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

According to the Daily, when a major disaster occurs, the medical team with the mobile hospital can quickly arrive at the disaster site and build a temporary hospital. Meanwhile, two operations can be carried out simultaneously.

The mobile hospital of the Seventh Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University can maintain normal operations in the field for 72 hours in the absence of a water and electricity supply.

At present, the mobile hospital’s rescue team includes 60 members who are mainly from emergency, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics and ear-nose-throat departments, as well as general surgery and surgical anesthesia centers.  (Zhang Yu)
