Twenty-five artists from China, Singapore, Malaysia, Europe, Africa and the United States are exhibiting their paintings at the “Great Art From Shenzhen” exhibition at Great Art Space near the Hilton Shenzhen Futian Hotel. Entry is free.

The 200-plus oil, ink and watercolor paintings displayed in six halls are divided into three themes: “Origin Shenzhen,” “Depicting Southeast Asia” and “Against the Sameness.”

“Origin Shenzhen” in Hall 1 features works by nine Shenzhen artists who are nationally and internationally sought-after. Among them are the representative artists of Lingnan School and New Jinling School, such as Chen Xiangbo and Song Yuming, who have academic status in the history of Chinese art development. New artists who dare to break through into the field of contemporary art include Wen Zhenfei, Chen Xiangbing and Xue Yang. There are also experimental artists, such as Deng Chunru, who intervene in community public affairs in an artistic way. According to the exhibition profile, “origin” means that Shenzhen embraces diverse cultures and that artists gather here for the same artistic goal and to record life by artistic means.

Works of “Depicting Southeast Asia,” displayed at halls 2, 5 and 6, are created by artists from Singapore and Malaysia. “Artists in Singapore and Malaysia, while fully inheriting the tradition of Chinese and Western paintings, have changed and created their own unique styles,” said Wang Yanrong, curator of G Art Gallery in Singapore. She said pioneering Singaporean artists have contributed a lot to the development of painting in Southeast Asia. Their ink paintings were inherited from traditional Chinese paintings and calligraphy while oil paintings featured the styles from European impressionism, fauvism and abstract expressionism.

Artists represented in “Against the Sameness” in Hall 4 are from Europe, Africa and the United States and embody completely different styles ranging from tumultuous U.K. street art to gentle Ukrainian shapes, the multicolored Kenyan palette to the combined Portuguese skyscraper, and more.

According to the “Against the Sameness” profile, the purpose of this section is to convey the uniqueness and diversity of human creativity, to inspire people who work in different spheres, and to give them a new sip of freshness that will encourage them to broaden their horizons. Paintings here are mainly in abstract styles, inviting viewers into the world of emotions and adventure.
