PREFABRICATED buildings will become the city’s major construction model by the year 2025, accounting for more than 50 percent of new building area, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported. The proportion of prefabricated buildings in the city will reach over 30 percent among all new buildings and over 50 percent among projects funded by the government by 2020, according to the city’s planning. At present, there are more than 17 million square meters of prefabricated buildings across the city, which leads the country, according to the second international prefabricated building development summit that kicked off Wednesday. Staff from the Shenzhen Municipal Housing and Construction Bureau told the Daily that Shenzhen is sticking to the concept of sustainable development and actively promoting the use of prefabricated buildings. The model was first applied to affordable housing. The third phase of the Longyueju project in Longhua District was a successful prefab project. Shenzhen has built several prefabricated buildings in recent years, having a strong influence on the country, such as the third phase of the Runfu building by China Resources, which is said to be the country’s highest concrete prefabricated building, and the country’s largest prefabricated public housing project — the Shenzhen Changzhen housing estate — and its affiliated projects, which are under construction.
