Officer dies on duty

AN officer with the Shenzhen traffic police motorcycle brigade died in the line of duty Sunday after giving way to a car and getting hit on the curb in Dapeng, according to the traffic police authority.

The officer surnamed Tong died at the scene and the cause of the crash is still under investigation, the police said on its official microblog.

Charity fair closes

THE 7th China Charity Fair closed Sunday after seeing 190,000 people participate over the three days and 7.4 billion yuan (US$1.05 billion) in donations matched.

The fair attracted 1,400 representatives from 31 pro-vinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, as well as the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions.

Railway operation

SHENZHEN Customs recorded a total of 17 million people crossing the border via rail services in the year since the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link was put into operation Sept. 23 last year. In 2019, the rail handled an average of 56,000 passengers each day.
