Water treatment sees success in Bao’an
    2019-09-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

YE ZHENQIN, a member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC, visited Shenzhen Sept. 18 to inspect water treatment, biological environment restoration and the facilities for garbage treatment.

Bao’an has achieved a lot in ecological civilization construction. In the first half of the year, a total of 55 of the 61 odorous and polluted river sections were cleared. Water quality has continuously been improved, and forest coverage rose to 23.47 percent. The city’s green coverage reached 47 percent, and the number of parks in the district ranked second in the city at 178, while community habitability ranked first in the city.

The Bao’an section of the Maozhou River used to have the most polluted water in Guangdong Province. After two years of efforts, the Maozhou River has become a model of Shenzhen water treatment. The final aim for the treatment of the Maozhou River in Bao’an is to eliminate the odorous and polluted water in both the main stream and every branch this year. To accomplish this, Bao’an District has organized 67 projects to ameliorate water conditions.

So far, the Bao’an section of the Maozhou River has two systems to separate rain and sewage water. The district has built three new sewage treatment plants to increase the capacity for water treatment by 157 percent. Three river sediment treatment plants have been built near the Maozhou River, and 1.96 million cubic meters of river sediment were also treated. Currently the main river and 21 branches in the district have been cleared of odorous and polluted water.

To mitigate the challenges of the Maozhou River, the district has come up with several innovative modes for water treatment. The first is to use EPC (Engineering Procurement Construction) for water treatment, which unites the local government and the enterprises under the Central Government. The second mode is to renovate the sewage outlets. The third is to strengthen work coordination to publish two documents to regulate water treatment. The fourth is to improve sewage management, which includes the registration of sewage discharge, and innovation of water treatment and fecal treatment technology.
