Elderly-care facilities THE Ministry of Civil Affairs has issued a guideline on promoting elderly care service consumption, proposing equipping all communities in China with elderly-care facilities by 2022. Newly-built residential quarters should have elderly care service facilities and new facilities should be installed in old quarters through renovation or rental schemes, according to the guideline, which proposed 17 measures to meet elderly-care service demands. A total of 2 million nursing personnel will be trained for the elderly-care service by the end of 2022, it said. Suspect surrenders LI LIANCHUN, a fugitive duty crime suspect, has returned to China and turned himself in, an official source announced yesterday. He has also returned most of his illegal gains, according to a statement by an office in charge of fugitives and asset recovery under the central anti-corruption coordination group. Li, formerly head of the Mishan Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee in Northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, is suspected of embezzling huge project funding alone or in collusion, the statement said. ETC users THE country now has more than 130 million electronic toll collection (ETC) users, according to the Ministry of Transport. By Sept. 18, the total number of ETC users stood at 130.51 million, meaning 68.39 percent of the total issuance task was completed, data from the ministry showed. New ETC users this year totaled 53.96 million, the ministry said. Earlier this year, the ministry issued a circular to popularize the use of expressway ETC devices, with a target to install such devices on over 80 percent of registered automobiles by year end. The policy aims to reduce emissions and logistics costs and relieve traffic congestion on expressways. |
