SHENZHEN will develop 100,000 square meters of underground space along Metro Line 13, which is currently under construction.
The space includes four sections of five Metro stations between Songping Station and Keyuan Station on Line 13, which runs along Keyuan Boulevard in Shenzhen High-tech Industrial Park.
Keyuan Boulevard and its surrounding areas will be turned into a space supported by public transport and assisted by cultural, commercial, leisure and entertainment services. The above-ground and underground space will be linked by sunken plazas and provide public services, such as cultural, leisure and slow traffic infrastructure, to people working in the high-tech park as well as neighborhood residents, according to the plan released by the Nanshan Administration of Shenzhen’s planning and natural resources bureau.
The development of the underground space seizes the opportunity presented by the construction of Metro Line 13 for the implementation of urban rejuvenation projects. It will solve problems created by the mixture of pedestrian and vehicle flows and the shortage of public space and facilities in the high-tech park, while also improving the environment in the area.
The underground space, measuring around 100,000 square meters in total, will be developed around five Metro stations that are roughly divided into northern, central and southern areas.
Half of the space in the underground complexes will be designated for Metro traffic, while the space for commerce will take up no more than 30 percent and the space for public services will be no less than 10 percent.
The south-north Metro Line 13 starts at Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint in Nanshan District and runs 22 kilometers along Keyuan Boulevard, Tongfa Road, Shahe West Road and Baoshi Road to Bao’an District. It will be extended to the border with Dongguan along Guangming District in the future. It has five stations in the Shenzhen high-tech park area, namely Songping Station, Kexing Station, Shenzhen University Station, Shenzhen University East Station and Keyuan Station. Eleven of the 16 stations along the line are interchange stations. Work on the line has been started and it will be put into operation in 2022. (Han Ximin) |
