ONE of Chinese tech giant and smartphone maker Huawei Technologies Co.’s devices has outshone those of other big-name global smartphone makers in a recent mobile phone audio experience test organized by French-based camera and lens-testing company DxOMark.

Huawei’s Mate 20 X tops the list of mobile phone audio experience with an overall score of 75, followed by Apple’s iPhone XS Max and iPhone 11 Pro Max with scores of 74 and 71 respectively. The Huawei Mate 20 X beats its competitors in both playback and recording, according to DxOMark’s test results.

The brand-new benchmark for mobile audio quality was recently launched by DxOMark on both www.dxomark.com and www.dxomark.com/cn. DxOMark assesses the capabilities of a mobile phone’s speaker and microphone.

DxOMark published the scores for the devices tested Thursday. The company has tested mobile phones of manufacturers including Apple, Samsung, Huawei and Sony.

The audio benchmark evaluates the playback quality of speakers as well as the recording quality of microphones embedded in mobile phones. Testing each device involves assessing more than 100 audio combinations for several days in their dedicated labs.

The DxOMark audio test protocol is based on a set of use cases and associated reference audio samples representing a broad range of voices, ambiences, music, and everyday audio environments designed to be comprehensive, robust, and repeatable as a basis for assessment.

Established in 2008, DxOMark is an independent benchmark that scientifically assesses the quality of smartphones, lenses and cameras.
