HIV control education on campus to be strengthened
    2019-10-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE country will reinforce HIV/AIDS prevention education in schools nationwide to ensure at least 95 percent of the youth on campus are equipped with the knowledge, according to a newly-released government plan for the control of HIV transmission.

Under the three-year plan, made by the National Health Commission and nine other government departments, middle schools are asked to give students a total of 10 hours of AIDS prevention education during their six years of study.

In addition, colleges should hold at least one hour of lecture on AIDS control for students each year.

Students should be guided to reject unsafe sexual behavior and illicit drugs and foster correct concepts on sex, the document said.

Internet and media technology could be better utilized for HIV information education so that schools can incorporate such themed online courses into students’ curricula.

The plan asked authorities to support students to take part in related educational activities as volunteers and increase accessibility to HIV detection and consultation centers and condom vending machines.
