Sun gets Nov. 15 date for CAS doping hearing
    2019-10-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

CHINA’S star swimmer Sun Yang will have his court hearing Nov. 15 in a rare open trial to answer allegations he violated anti-doping rules.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) says the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA )appeal will be heard at a luxury hotel in Montreux, Switzerland, rather than at its headquarters in Lausanne.

All sides agreed to a request by Sun’s lawyers to hear the case in public — the first time CAS has opened its doors in 20 years.

The court says “it is intended to live stream all or parts of the hearing on the CAS website.”

The case could see three-time Olympic champion Sun banned from the Tokyo Games next year.

The court action follows an explosive report from FINA’s own anti-doping committee in January saying Sun had used a hammer to smash a blood sample during an out-of-competition test in September last year.

However, FINA agreed with Sun, winner of multiple world and Olympic titles, that testers had failed to produce adequate identification or follow protocol during the testing, clearing him of wrongdoing.

But WADA responded by taking the case to CAS.

The hearing was originally fixed for September but postponed at the request of one of the parties, CAS said in August.(SD-Agencies)
