CITY TO DESIGNATE NOV. 1 AS ENTREPRENEURS DAY
    2019-10-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE Shenzhen government will put forward a proposal to the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress today to designate Nov. 1 as Shenzhen Entrepreneurs Day, local Chinese-language media reported.

The proposal was made following calls and suggestions from local lawmakers and political advisers on setting up Shenzhen Entrepreneurs Day.

Once approved, Shenzhen will be the first Chinese city to have such a day for entrepreneurs.

Statistics from Shenzhen Federation of Industry and Commerce and the city’s small  and medium-sized enterprises service bureau show that the number of private enterprises continued to experience double-digit increases in recent years.

The number of private enterprises had reached 1.95 million by July 2019, taking up 61.9 percent of the total business entities. There are 241 business entities and 149.9 firms for every 1,000 people in Shenzhen, ranking first in China in business density.

Besides their notable quantity, the private enterprises in Shenzhen are also of high quality and display capability in innovation, production and making contributions to society.

“Setting up Entrepreneurs Day shows the city’s effort to build a world-class business environment and contribute to the development of the [Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao] Grater Bay Area while building the city into a demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics,” said Cai Li, secretary of the Party Leadership Group of Shenzhen Federation of Industry and Commerce.

It will help create an environment conducive to the healthy growth of entrepreneurs and enhance their sense of honor and responsibility, according to Cai.

“Whether it’s high-quality development or building a demonstration area, these things can’t be done without the vitality of entrepreneurs, the entrepreneurial spirit and responsibility of entrepreneurs. A first-class economy relies on first-class entrepreneurs,” said Cai.

China’s private sector has made an important contribution to economic growth, according to the country’s industry and commerce federation.

The sector now contributes more than 60 percent of China’s GDP growth and brings in over half of China’s fiscal revenue.

President Xi Jinping has reassured the country’s private sector with pledges of substantial policy support to crank up a vital engine of the world’s second-largest economy.(Han Ximin)
