Lin Lin linlinasa@163.com A DELEGATION of reporters from major Austrian newspapers and journals visited Shenzhen Press Group yesterday morning to share experience on media convergence in the Internet era. The delegation toured the group’s integrated media center to learn about the group’s history and its latest achievements in new media before having a talk with the leaders of the group. At the meeting, Ding Shizhao, deputy editor-in-chief of Shenzhen Press Group, gave an opening speech on the difficulties that challenge traditional media in the time of the Internet and how the group is coping with such difficulties. “The Internet has put traditional media through hard times. We’re endeavoring to break through the difficulties, and new media is one of the ways,” said Ding. Currently, the group’s major newspapers, such as Shenzhen Special Zone Daily and Shenzhen Economic Daily, have developed their own apps, and the group is also working with Shenzhen Metro to explore the potential of using the Metro as a form of media. Thomas Gotz, a reporter from Kleine Zeitung, a major regional newspaper in Austria, agreed that the challenge imposed by the Internet is a problem shared by all involved in traditional media, even though they are doing well with the print edition of their newspaper. For Kleine Zeitung and Kronen Zeitung, another major newspaper in Austria, print editions earn more money than paid digital editions. However, they’re still seeking ways to develop new media and one of the purposes of their visit is to see what can be learned from Shenzhen Press Group’s practices. |
