HAVING just partnered with Netflix on the comedy “Eurovision,” Will Ferrell will reteam with the streamer on a narrative adaptation of the documentary “The Legend of Cocaine Island.” The documentary, which premiered at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival and debuted on Netflix in March of this year, follows a small-business owner and family man who learns of the legend of a buried stash of cocaine worth US$2 million hidden in the Caribbean. Having been wiped out during the Great Recession, he hatches a plan to retrieve the buried loot, using the talents of a band of colorful misfits. But without prior drug-running experience, trouble and hilarity ensues. Peter Steinfeld will pen the screenplay for the adaptation. Ferrell will also produce with Gloria Sanchez Productions’ Jessica Elbaum and David Permut. Theo Love, who directed the doc, and Bryan Storkel will executive-produce. Ferrell will next be seen in the comedy-drama “Downhill.” (SD-Agencies) |
