THE Shenzhen Stomatology Hospital, which is the first city-level public stomatology hospital in the city, began trial operation Saturday, giving citizens a new option for the diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases.

Located at No. 70 Guiyuan North Road in Luohu District, the hospital covers an area of 16,160 square meters and consists of an outpatient building, an inpatient building and an administration building.

The hospital plans to have 50 beds and 100 dental chairs. The trial operation, which is the first phase of the hospital’s two-phase project, has opened all 31 dental chairs in the outpatient building.

It will set up a number of specialties in dentistry, including orthodontics, maxillofacial surgery, periodontology, oral mucosa, preventive dentistry, endodontics, pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics and dental implantation, and will carry out such difficult operations as oral and maxillofacial surgery, maxillofacial plastic surgery and orthognathic surgery in the future.

In terms of equipment, the hospital is equipped with ultrasound osteotomes, CAD/CAM systems, high-end dental microscopes for root canal treatments, dual-wavelength laser systems for oral cavities, 3-in-1 CT imaging systems and other supporting equipment.

It is noteworthy that there are currently only 13 dental CAD/CAM systems in Shenzhen, of which two are in the stomatology hospital.

At present, the hospital has a team of 33 dentists, 82 percent of whom hold a master’s degree or above from prestigious universities, such as Peking University, Peking Union Medical College and West China School of Stomatology of Sichuan University.

According to the hospital, patients can not only make an appointment to see a doctor on its public WeChat account, but can also register and pay their medical bills by using the facial recognition system at the hospital.

Patients also don’t need to go to the pharmacy to collect medicine after their medical treatment is completed. Instead, they can pay their bills at the consulting room, and the nurse will send the medicine to their room and provide instructions on using the medicine in person.

The hospital, rated as a grade-A stomatology hospital, aims to become a multi-functional, modern hospital integrating medical treatment, scientific research, teaching and health care.

According to a survey by Shenzhen Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control, 88.1 percent of adults in Shenzhen have dental caries, and the average number of decayed teeth is 3.67, which means 323 dental caries require treatment in every 100 adults.
